Ingredients

  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened softened at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup fresh herbs, chopped such as parsley, dill, chives
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup chopped nuts or crackers optional for coating
  • 20 stick pretzel sticks for spider legs

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Plastic wrap
  • Knife
  • Pretzel sticks

Method

  1. Place the softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl and use a spatula to blend until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add the chopped herbs, paprika, and black pepper to the cream cheese, then fold gently to incorporate all the seasonings evenly.
  3. Transfer the mixture onto a piece of plastic wrap and shape it into a compact ball. Wrap it tightly and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to firm up.
  4. Remove the cheese ball from the fridge and unwrap it carefully. Roll the ball in chopped nuts or cracker crumbs to coat the exterior, creating a textured surface.
  5. Place the coated cheese ball onto a serving platter, and press a few additional herbs on top for decoration, if desired. Allow it to sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly for easier handling.
  6. Take each pretzel stick and cut it in half or into smaller segments to resemble spider legs. Carefully insert these pretzel legs into the cheese ball at various angles to mimic a spider's limbs.
  7. Adjust the pretzel legs to ensure they are secure and resemble a spider's effect. Optionally, add small herb sprigs or other decorations for extra detail.
  8. Let the cheese ball sit for a few minutes so the pretzel legs settle into place before serving.

Notes

For a creepier touch, add additional edible decorations like olive eyes or edible insects.
