Ingredients

  • 12 pieces cherry tomatoes preferably firm and ripe
  • 12 small mozzarella balls fresh mini mozzarella or bocconcini, cut into tiny pieces if large
  • 6 basil leaves fresh basil for a greenish eye effect
  • 3 tablespoons balsamic glaze for drizzling to mimic bloodshot eyes

Equipment

  • Toothpicks or small skewers
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Small spoon or pipette for drizzling

Method

  1. Wash the cherry tomatoes and pat them dry thoroughly. Cut a small, shallow hole in the top of each tomato to create a socket for the mozzarella.
  2. Snap off tiny pieces of mozzarella and gently press one into each tomato socket, making it look like an eyeball with a white iris.
  3. Carefully fold or tear basil leaves into tiny strips that resemble bloodshot veins, and place a small piece on top of each mozzarella ball for added creepy effect.
  4. Arrange the finished eyeballs on a serving platter, spacing them evenly for visual impact.
  5. Using a small spoon or pipette, carefully drizzle the balsamic glaze over each eyeball to mimic bloodshot veins and add a spooky touch.
  6. Serve immediately, allowing guests to pick up the creepy little eyeballs and enjoy their fun, unsettling appearance.
